Sideloader steering and basic manoeuvring

timber yard plan

Sideloaders are traditionally used in yeards with a reasonable amount of space. A typical example may be a yard with packs of timber stacked in lines at different heights with aisleways for the sideloader to negotiate as shown above. As a first step in learning to steer the machine the trainee should be instructed to drive along an aisle, do a 'U' turn at the end and return down an adjacent aisle. After this the instructor should get the trainee to do figure of eight manoeuvre using the aislways as a natural course.
