Forklift accidents and prosecutions january 2018 to december 2019
The really good news is that fatal accidents involving forklift trucks in the United Kingdom have decreased over time. In the year to April 2013 there were only six fatal accidents which, although too many, is much lower than the 30 annual deaths that were reported annually when I started in the forklift industry in 1970.
Some of the more recent forklift accidents that have come to my attention are listed below and I will update these on an ongoing basis. Older forklift accidents can be viewed via the links on the left.
December 13th 2019. A plastic packaging manufacturer has been fined £150,000 after an accident at its site resulted in an employee suffering multiple fractures to their pelvis and legs. Read More
December 2nd 2019. A Chorley company has been fined £60,000 plus more than £4000 costs after a forklift overturned on a slope trapping the driver causing life changing injuries. Read More
November 11th 2019. A haulage company has been fined following an incident where a warehouse operative was injured by a forklift truck at its business premises at Snetterton, Norfolk. Read More
November 4th 2019. Farming partnership B A L Ackroyd has been sentenced for safety breaches, following a fatal incident involving a member of the public who was killed by a telehandler. Read More
October 25th 2019. In the early hours of 2 February 2016 an incident occurred where a tall stack of metal containers (stillages) fell through an internal office roof killing a man. Read More
October 4th 2019. A Liverpool company has been sentenced after a worker was struck by a load falling from two fork lift trucks during an unloading operation. Read More
October 2nd 2019. The director of a waste management company has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after an employee was critically injured. Read More
September 23rd 2019. An engineering company has been fined following the death of an employee who was struck on the head in an accident involving a sideloader. Read More
September 4th 2019. An employee has been fined after an apprentice suffered serious injuries when he fell from a potato box lifted by a forklift truck. Read More
August 14th 2019. An event management company has been fined for failing to ensure the safety of employees during the lifting and moving of a 14-foot-wide park home chassis. Read More
August 8th 2019. A concrete production company has been fined £400,000 after a welder lost four fingers during an unsafe lifting operation. Read More
August 6th 2019. A classic car enthusiast suffered fatal crush injuries after a forklift truck he was helping to load on to a lorry at a Carlisle auto-salvage yard fell on top of him. Read More
July 25th 2019. Airworld Airlines Ltd has been fined £82,000 after a freight container weighing nearly 700kg fell on a worker at a warehouse in Hounslow. Read More
July 23rd 2019. A Birmingham manufacturer has been fined £200,000 plus costs after a worker suffered fatal injuries when struck by a forklift truck on a walkway. Read More
July 17th 2019. A shipping company has been fined after a Heavy Goods Vehicle driver was struck by a paper reel that was being loaded on to his trailer. Read More
June 25th 2019. Whiterose Scaffolding (Leeds) Ltd has been sentenced after a worker was crushed by a forklift truck whilst not wearing his seat belt. Read More
June 13th 2019. A Warrington engineering fabrication company has been sentenced after a worker suffered severe crush injuries when a metal frame he was moving toppled from a fork lift truck. Read More
June 6th 2019. Tragically a man has died in an accident involving a forklift truck at an industrial premises in Nottinghamshire three days ago. Read More
May 26th 2019. A telecommunication inspection and maintenance company has been fined after a forklift truck overturned during an unsafe lifting operation which could have exposed several workers to the risk of death or serious personal injury. Read More
April 24th 2019. A potato processing company has today been sentenced for safety breaches after a worker, Colin Smith, was struck by a telehandler load. Read More
April 10th 2019. A Cheshire based woodworking company has been sentenced after a worker was struck by a fork lift truck at Woodford Park Industrial Estate, Winsford. Read More
March 4th 2019. Some people think that non motorised pallet trucks, (pump trucks), don't require the operator to be trained. This accident shows that it's simply not true. Read More
February 26th 2019. A double glazing and conservatory manufacturing company was fined £66,000 plus costs after a worker was seriously injured at its site in Wakefield. Read More
February 18th 2019. A poultry-processing company has today been fined after a yardman was seriously injured after being struck by a forklift truck. Read More
December 19th 2018. A company has been fined €100,000 over safety breaches that caused the death of a man within hours of starting his first day at work. Read More
