load not against forks

It can be seen in this picture the forks have not been entered properly into the load. As previously mentioned this can cause serious forward instability of the forklift. The golden rule for training is that the forks should be entered into the load until they actually kiss the load. The expression kiss is used so as to encourage gentle contact with the load which may be delicate.

As previously mentioned, it is sometimes impossible in a real life situation to do this as the forks may protrude through the load and engage with an obstruction behind. Under these circumstances undercutting of the load is allowed but it should be realised that this seriously affects the stability of the truck and should only be done by knowledgeable operators who have first ascertained the weight of the load and the capacity of their forklift.
