medium and high level order picker test (ABA categories e1 and e2)
December 2020. the Accrediting Bodies Association have created a test for medium and high level order pickers which is similar to the existing test for counterbalanced and reach truck operators. This test may be used from December 1st 2019 but it's use is mandatory from 1st April 2021 for ABA accredited trainers.
The test should be administered by a lift truck instructor/examiner who is qualified in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) and supplementary guidance “Rider operated lift trucks: operator training and safe use”.
The ACoP and guidance gives advice to employers on lift truck operator training and testing. Successful completion of basic operator training should be followed by job specific and familiarisation training, and supervision as described in the ACoP and guidance. This test can be used as: a. Validation of a course of basic, refresher or conversion training b. Confirmation of existing standards c. Pre employment assessment d. Post incident assessment.
The categories for these machines are E1 and E2 and the RTITB trainer's guide is LGT13.
As is normal for forklift tests it consists of three parts:
- Practical test of operating skills
- Written test of theoretical knowledge
- Test of operator's pre use inspection ability

The written test consists of twenty five questions, some multiple choice and some open questions. Five of the questions are mandatory and must be included. More details of this test can be found here.
